WHAT IS THE CHOP SERVICE
Chop Service supplies ready mitred mouldings (cut at 45°) to customer specified size.
It is a widely spread service in the USA and in some European countries.
The Chop Service benefits are:
Having the possibility to display a wide range of moulding samples.
No investing in moulding stock.
No investing in moulding cutting machines.
Having the possibility to assess customer interest before purchasing full length mouldings.
More available space in your warehouse.
No more waste and off-cut pieces. A possible solution could be to keep only the most common mouldings in stock and purchase the rarely used or more expensive ones though the Chop Service.
HOW MUCH DOES THE CHOP SERVICE COST?
The price of the Chop Service is determined by multiplying the moulding meter price by 1,80 and then by multiplying the result by the external perimeter of the moulding. The external perimeter, as all framers know, is given by the sum of the internal perimeter plus 8 times the width of the moulding. Let's order for example a 30x40 cm frame (internal size) with the moulding code 403SOLE, which costs 2 per meter and is 40 mm wide.
The external frame perimeter is calculated as follows:
(30+40 cm) x 2 + (4 x 8 cm) = 140 cm + 32 cm = 172 cm
The price of the Chop Service (that is the supplying of the 4 mitred pieces) is: 6,192 (rounded off to 6,19 )
ADDING MILLIMETRES
When a framer speaks of a 30x40 cm frame, he/she is normally referring to the internal size of the frame, where the 30x40 cm glass will be placed. The frame must be therefore a bit larger than the glass and the framer will cut the frame in the size 30,2x40,2 cm (or 30,3 x 40,3).
The number of additional millimetres to be added must always be indicated when making a chop order. If you enter, e.g, "2", we will cut the frame at 30,2x40,2 cm. Should you not enter any value, the frame will be cut exactly 30x40 cm, without adding any additional millimetres.
JOINING THE FRAME
You can also order the joining of the frame, which means we mitre and join the 4 pieces of the frame and touch up the joints.
The price of the joining consists of a fixed component plus a variable part.
The fixed component is 1,40 , for any chosen size or moulding type.
The variable part depends on the size of the frame and on the width of the moulding. It is obtained by adding the internal perimeter of the frame plus the width of the moulding expressed in millimetres and dividing the result by 100. It is a rather difficult formula to explain and understand, an example could clear things up:
Internal perimeter 1,40 m + moulding width 40 mm / 100 = 1,40 + 0,40 = 1,80. This result is transformed in euro ( 1,80) and represents the variable part of the joining price. We just add the fixed component 1,40 to the variable part 1,80 to get the total price 3,20.
GLASS, CARDBOARD, HANGERS
You can also order glass, cardboard and hangers. The price of each component is shown in the indicated chart. Select them by clicking the boxes on the right of the component description.
The price of each selected component will be added to the frame price.
As far as the glass is concerned, you will be able to choose from normal glass, non-glare glass, plastic glass (also called crilex, polystyrene, acrylic glass). The price of the glass is calculated by multiplying the sqm price by the internal area of the frame.
You may choose your frame backing board among grey cardboard, corrugated cardboard, masonite. Like the glass, the price of the backing board is obtained by multiplying the sqm price by the frames internal area.
Lastly, you can also order the hangers application onto the frame, choosing the short or the long side, or both of them. You can order one or two hangers for any side. The price is 0,25 per hanger.
CHOP SERVICE MINIMUM QUANTITIES
There is no minimum order for chop service.
On the contrary, the minimum order for joint frames is 10 frames which can be of different sizes. For lower quantities we debit a fee of 5€. Packing frames is a long and expensive operation as we must guarantee good protection during shipment. This is why the packing cost must be shared among several frames.
QUANTITY DISCOUNTS
We automatically apply quantity discounts on frames with the same moulding code and size.
12% discount on 5 frames
18% discount on 10 frames
22% discount on 20 frames
26% discount on 50 frames
28% discount on 100 frames
30% discount on 200 frames
Discounts are automatically applied even if they have not been requested.
SIZE LIMITS
It is advisable not to use thin mouldings for large frames. For example, 50x70 cm frames should be made with at least 2 cm wide mouldings. The maximum size for joint frames is 70x100 cm.
The maximum glass size is 35x50 cm. Over such size the risk of breaking is high and we suggest therefore that you use the plastic glass (crilex, polystyrene, acrylic glass).
